On road safety especially for cyclists, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications said the National Road Safety Council has short term plans, namely introducing a ban on cycling on all highways and main roads that have speed limit exceeding 65 kilometres per hour. Also introduced were selected bicycle lanes in each district and update cycling guidance. Meanwhile, the medium term plan is the implementation of road signage for prohibited routes and designated cycling routes.

 

Amendments to the law regarding the cycling ban and tightening regulations pertaining to traffic offenses will also be carried out. Meanwhile, the long term plan is providing dedicated bicycle lanes, which will also involve providing local development plans that take into account bicycle lanes and the need for active mobility connectivity.
